Gaffer cheat sheet
One job, in order. Tape, wagon, weeks, extra, invoice, strike.
00 · The run
Tape the elevation. Add the job — kit from the tape × Company (Bones or tube and fitting). Load the wagon. Put on hire when the start date lands. Invoice the quote. Extra hire if it overruns. Strike. Mark kit back. Chase returns. Jump on the phone. The book that lasts is this machine.
01 · Quote
New job: customer, site, start date. Measure the elevation — length, height, return, bay, lift, boarded lifts. Quote save rebuilds the kit from the tape × the yard card: labour (erect and strike), weekly hire and the kit sheet. Total is labour plus weekly hire times quoted weeks. Net.
02 · Kit
Takeoff is what the tape called for. Load takeoff to mark qty out. Loaded is what left the yard. Put it on hire when the start date lands. Shorts mean the wagon went out under the tape.
03 · Hire
Weeks on hire run from the start date to today, or to the strike date. Any part of seven days is a week; once on hire it is at least one. Standing hire is weeks on hire times the weekly rate.
04 · Overrun
Weeks beyond the quoted weeks are extra hire. Extra weeks times the weekly rate. It sits on the job until you invoice it. Not in the quote total.
05 · Money
Invoice the quote for labour and the quoted weeks. Invoice extra hire when it overruns. Variation for extras that were not on the tape. Raise them from the job. Mark paid on the board.
06 · Down
Strike when it comes down. Count kit back. If it stood longer than quoted, extra hire is still to invoice. Kit still out after strike is returns to chase.
07 · Two sheets
The quote sheet is the money — labour, weekly hire, weeks, total. The kit docket is the loading list — takeoff, loaded, back, on hire. Print has both. Charge from the quote. Load from the docket. They are not the same sheet.
08 · Tax
Yard figures are net. VAT is 20% on top of net only if you typed a VAT number on Settings / Company. Gross is net plus that 20%. Shown on the desk. Not stored in the quote.
09 · Company
Company is Settings / Company: name, address, VAT, company number, bank, and tube-and-fitting or Bones. The company name prints on quotes and invoices. Quotes and invoices only print those details if you typed them. Bank details print on invoices if you typed them. Saving the card does not move jobs already quoted — save the quote on a job to rebuild its kit from the tape × the yard card.
10 · Kit list
The tape goes in — length, height, return, bay, lift. Quote save rebuilds the kit from that tape × the yard card: standards, ledgers, boards, fittings. Show kit list on the job card. Full sheet at the kit page. What this job called for. Not a yard stock count.
11 · Jump
On the phone, Jump is in the header and under More — tap it. It is titled Jump, not Ctrl+K. On the desk, Ctrl+K or Cmd+K still opens it. Type a job, a site or a page — hits re-rank as you type. Closest first. Enter takes the first hit. Esc closes it. Yard, jobs, new job, customers, invoices, company, how, backup — and jobs from the book.
12 · Book
Backup page: download the yard as JSON. Restore that file onto this machine — it replaces the whole book, it does not append. Jobs already here go. The live Vercel copy still resets. Keep a copy of the book off the desk.
13 · Calendar
On the job, Add to calendar downloads an ICS. Start day is always in — all-day, customer and site, reminds the day before. If struck, the same file includes the strike day with the same day-before reminder. Drop it into Outlook or the phone.
14 · Spells
Strike stops the clock. Back on hire starts a new spell. Days in the gap — struck, not standing — are not billed. Weeks on hire count only the days it actually stood.
15 · Phone
On the job: Call opens the dialler. WhatsApp opens the chat. Same tap on the docket. Only if you typed a number, and only if it is long enough to be a UK line.
16 · Life
The quote sheet prints Valid until. Days come from Settings / Company. On the money sheet, not the kit docket.
17 · Remaining
On the kit board. Load remaining puts qty out up to the tape on lines that went short — the rest of the load, not a fresh wagon. Load takeoff still marks the whole takeoff as loaded. Back is untouched.
18 · Copy
Copy job is a new job from this tape: customer, site, contact, measure, labour, weekly hire and the kit list. Start date is today. Quoted, not on hire. Nothing loaded. Hire weeks and invoices stay on the old job.
19 · Repeat
New job: type a customer already in the book and the last site fills. Site phone and contact too. Empty boxes only — it will not overwrite what you typed.
20 · Maps
Maps on the job and the docket opens a Google search of the site as typed. Not GPS. No van pin. Nothing invented.
21 · Returns
On the kit board, All back marks qty back equal to qty out on every line. Nothing left on hire. Requote waits until kit is all back.
22 · Fittings
On this yard, putlog couplers are called Singles and joint pins are called Sleeves. Singles are toeboard clips — they clip toeboards to the standards. Independent tube-and-fitting — not wall putlogs. That is the language on the kit list and the weekly hire row.
23 · Bones
Company: Tube and fitting, or Bones. Bones are Readyfix transoms — also called Readyloks or double arms. Common in the South West. They hook on the ledgers, so Bones drop the transom doubles (two doubles per tube transom stay off the list). Singles — toeboard clips — stay. Saving Company does not rewrite old jobs; quote save on a job rebuilds its kit from the tape × the yard card.
24 · Keys
Alt+N new job. Alt+J jobs. Alt+A archived. Alt+I invoices. Alt+Y yard. Alt+B the book. Alt+C Company. Alt+H How. Alt+E extra-only /jobs?extra=1. Not while typing in a field. On the phone, Jump is in the header and under More. On the desk, Ctrl+K still opens Jump.
25 · Extra
On Jobs, tap Extra hire to show dockets with extra still to bill. Alt+E opens that filter. Tap again or Full book to clear. Extra first still sorts those to the top on the full list.
26 · Tape
On the elevation chips, Copy tape puts the measure on the clipboard — length, height, return, bay, lift and the rest, joined with dots. Paste into a text, WhatsApp or the notes.
27 · Dates
Dates on the desk say Today, Yesterday or Tomorrow when they sit next to London today. Further out stays the short date.
28 · Restore
Restore on Backup reads the file first and shows the job count. Nothing writes until you confirm REPLACE. That wipe is the whole book on this machine — it does not merge.
29 · Host
The live Vercel copy is a look at the desk. It resets. Keep the book on your machine with npm run dev — that one lasts.
30 · More
On the phone, More opens Company, How, Backup, Extra hire and Archived. Jump sits in the header and under More as well — that is how you Jump on the phone.
31 · Desk
The desk is dark only. There is no light mode. Company name on Settings / Company prints on quotes and invoices.
